AiP WDIM TouchScreen Keyboard

Art Institute of Pittsburgh Special Projects Team - Spring 2008
Adobe Flash (with ActionScript Programming), Illustrator

Objective

The objective of this Project is to create a TouchScreen Keyboard Module for the WDIM Kiosk Display.

Goals

The Primary Goal for this project is to develop a virtual keyboard using Adobe Flash. This is an aspect of the whole Web Design and Interactive Media (WDIM) project, that will potentially be incorporated within the WDIM Display. Since, processing speed is an issue, my goal is to have a project small in file size, and be completely functional with the pre-existing screen size of the Flash Device.

Audience

My Target Audience is very specific in this case as it needs to be functional and usable by members of the WDIM Special Projects team. This project also needs to be clear and easy to implement, as new members may potentially need to understand how it works.

Solution

A solution we wanted to implement was a functioning Keyboard module for the Flash Interface of the WDIM Kiosk. There will be no keyboard, and a feature we wanted to recreate was an “iPhone”-like typing interface.

So when a letter is touched, the letter would appear magnified above the user’s finger. For this reason, we would need to create a function, that when the letter is pressed, displays the key larger and above the key-press on the Y-coordinate. This is the solution for confirming key-presses on small TouchScreen Keyboards.
